“The Immaterials” is a triptych created as part of a group collection for the Illustrative Explorations Exhibition in Toronto. Each group was tasked with researching an artist and creating a theme based on themes that artist frequently uses. Urs Fischer was the chosen artist for my group, and we went with the theme of absence / presence.
I wanted to explore the theme in relation to the body and the soul. More specifically how the soul, or essence of an individual, is present despite the presence of the physical body. While the body is absent, the soul is present. I was interested in how each of us are comprised of the same physical things, yet we each retain our own individuality.
